I am extremely disappointed with the travel protection that Expedia uses. When I filed a claim, I discovered that a different company handled everything—not sure if Expedia sold it to them, but if they are behind the Expedia travel protection, consider this a strong warning: do not purchase it. I booked a trip to Colorado for July, but two days before, I came down with a mild fever that developed into the flu. The night before our trip, my wife and I made the responsible decision not to travel in my condition to avoid exposing others, especially since I was feeling terrible. We opted for over-the-counter medicine and rest instead. We filed a claim the night before our flight, only to receive an email stating that my illness didn’t meet their terms and conditions. Apparently, unless you’re severely ill and have the expenses to prove it with a doctor or hospital visit, they won’t validate your claim. My wife and I lost over $1,000 canceling this trip. I appealed, explaining that it wasn’t necessary for me to visit a hospital, and requested they reconsider and honor the coverage I trusted I was getting. They denied my claim again. It’s clear that this is their business model—trap you in the fine print and make money upfront. I’m beyond disappointed.
