In July 2025, I went to Cabo San Lucas with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary — a 5-day trip that turned into a nightmare when I was rushed to the ER on the first night and spent 6 days in a Mexican hospital fighting for my life. With a tube down my nose draining to a colostomy bag keeping me alive, my only options were to be medevacked or have emergency surgery. I chose the safer option and had surgery. When I finally made it home to Texas, I expected my health insurance to stand behind me because life-saving emergency surgery was required. Memorial Hermann Health Plan did not.
What followed was nearly a year of broken promises, unanswered callbacks, misdirected paperwork, and representatives who either couldn't find my claim or promised supervisor callbacks that never came. No one at Memorial Hermann seemed to care that I had just survived a serious emergency surgery — a procedure so significant that my surgeon recorded it on video and gave it to me.
After months of runaround, they reimbursed me only 33% of my total claim — and couldn't even get a check to me reliably. When I asked how they calculated that amount, I was ignored. I had to ask three separate times for basic documentation explaining their methodology. To make matters worse, the cost of the surgery was well within, if not below, the cost of a U.S. hospital. I had to file a TDI complaint just to get any response at all.
Memorial Hermann Health Plan had every opportunity to show compassion and do right by a member who nearly lost her life on vacation. Instead, they showed me exactly how little they value their members when it matters most. I would not wish this experience on anyone.

I absolutely love Memorial Hermann Advantage. My doctors are top rated physicians. I have NEVER paid a penny to see my PCP., which I might add is the best I've EVER had!!The customer service reps
are professional and always helpful, in fact they are delightful. I am a former Medical Sales Rep, so my review is not from someone who knows nothing about healthcare. I honestly think Memorial Hermann Advantage is the best health plan out there! Reading some of these bad reviews makes me wonder where they are actually coming from...sometimes reviews are meant to drive business in other directions....just a thought??

I own a midsize company. I have a MH PPO plan. My doctor order an MRI a week and half ago and the MRI still hasn't been approved. I was informed today that they still have a week left to approve or disaprove the MRI. In the meantime I have to suffer because a plan of treatmeant for my low back pain and sciatica can't start due to the delay in MRI approval. I have MH insurance, MRI was ordered by a MH physician, procedure was scheduled at a MH facility. Why in earth should it take 15 days to approve the MRI?
I regret signing my company and my employees up to such a poorly run insurance plan. Looking back through MH reviews, their poor insurance plan practices have been going on for years and years. Apparently, they don't care about a poor reputation.
I will contact my insurance rep and let him know that he is doing a disservice to his clients by recommending MH insurance. I would encourage others to do the same. Also, I would encourage everyone to make a complaint to the insurance board and their local congressman. MH difinitely puts profits above customer care.
