So disappointed in this company and Angie’s ability to handle my closing. Her communication was unclear and even confusing on most emails, then she was irritated when I asked for clarification on 2 occasions. But more than that, Angie was on vacation on my closing day and apparently didn’t have anyone overseeing my transaction. The seller and I both went through closing process unbeknownst to us, the property survey was not done. Therefore the transaction didn’t fund and we were left with insurance and ownership issues. When I called to address the situation, Angie blamed the survey company and refused to own dropping the ball. Then she blamed being out of the office on closing day to which I responded that she should have had a colleague on top of it. I do not recommend this company.

As someone who’s been through seven or eight real estate transactions, I’m no stranger to working with escrow companies and generally expect a reasonable level of service. Unfortunately, my experience with Homelight, and specifically with escrow officer Angie Newkirk, was far from satisfactory.
The Good:
- The portal they used was user-friendly and made it somewhat easier to upload documents.
- They were flexible and agreed to close earlier than originally scheduled.
The Bad:
- Escrow officer Angie Newkirk avoided phone calls throughout the entire process - never once jumped on a call. It was clear through my interactions that she wasn’t interested in engaging.
- Her email responses were always curt, brief and never fully addressed my questions. It seemed like every email required 2-3 follow-up iterations to get the information I needed. The communication was poor and frustrating.
- I never received a preliminary closing statement. When I reached out to one of the assistants, she was surprised as well and mentioned that it was unusual for this to happen.
- Overall, there was a lack of transparency and communication. At times, it felt like pulling teeth to get the information I needed.
I’ve worked with several escrow companies over the years, and I’ve never had a reason to complain until now. This experience with Homelight and Angie Newkirk was a stark contrast to the level of service I’ve come to expect in my real estate dealings.
