Ordered very thorough, detailed "real" surveys prior to purchase and final negotiation for piece of mind from well known and respected hull and CAT engine surveyors in Florida. Hull survey covered everything from minor defects, e.g. scratches, loose/missing screws, carpet stains, to a few defects related to sea worthiness (all repaired per final negotiations). Both hull and engine (Top CAT specialist) surveyors were impressed with mechanical and cosmetic condition of the vessel. Kevin Severance indicated boat was not insurable citing the laundry list of deficiencies on the hull survey. I reached out to hull surveyor who indicated the survey list of items was comparably short to most others he surveyed (and subsequently insured without a problem). Boat is actually in excellent condition and impressed the surveyors. We cruised over 1000 nm immediately after purchase and not one single issue arose with all systems working (and still working). Within one day of being declined by this broker I was able to bind insurance coverage through another broker without issue.
