Stone Title Company was not our choice during a contract to buy a home. We wanted to use Young title company, but was told by the seller that if we used Young Title the contract was off. We reluctantly went with Stone. We were the ones putting up the earnest money for the contract.
We looked at the home and decided quickly that it would take more money than the house was worth to fix. We had paid 100.00 to Century 21 for the option to void the contract within 15 days for any reason. I was contacted by Century 21 and was told that the earnest money would be returned to me. They said they wanted to pay the inspector with the check we wrote to them. We had already purchased cashiers checks for the two inspectors. Stone Title still went ahead and deposited the check even though we had signed papers to end the contract and have the check returned. By them doing this our account was over drawn (which we do not do). We now know that when buying a home the buyer is the one to pick the title company. I had heard things about Stone Title and now I know they are true. Like I stated we asked for Young and we were even asked to alter the check from Pay To: Young Title with the Young crossed out and Stone written in. Stone Title promised our check would be sent back to us,but the deposited it into their account even though there was no longer a contract.

I'm a real estate investor and have dealt with over 50 different title companies throughout Texas and Stone Title is by far the worst title company I have ever dealt with. I used them for 3 different pieces of property and had the exact same result all 3 times. Communication is very poor. They will tell you anything to get you off of the phone instead of trying to solve any problems. Several times I actually had to speak to the attorneys myself to see what was going on because they wouldn't do anything and then I ended up doing a lot of the attorneys own work, such as sending out affidavit of heir ships, etc. Two of the deals, I just gave up on and never closed because nobody would ever tell me what was going on. I also still have not received my earnest money back on them after several months. The one deal that I did get closed was a simple cash deal with no survey, appraisals, etc. and it still took them 4 months to get it closed with only one minor title issue that normally takes less than a week to resolve. I have never seen such unprofessional and rude behavior and a place of business. Use at your own risk.
