Independent agencies represent multiple carriers rather than a single brand, so producers quote and compare coverage across markets instead of selling one product line. Teams tend to be small, which means more direct client contact and faster exposure to underwriting, service, and renewal work.
Most producer roles require an active Property & Casualty or Life & Health license from the state insurance department where you work. Many agencies sponsor licensing for trainees and CSRs, and pay is often a base salary plus new-business and renewal commission.
